Epi Bread Carrier
With this project, we were given the task to create packaging that is meant to be both functional at protecting the object that it is meant to carry and enjoyable to look at and use. The specific item I was tasked to design a carrier for was epi bread, a fragile loaf of bread that is modeled after a stalk of wheat. Therefore, the packaging I created, had to provide a good amount of support for the loaf which could quickly break if it wasn't protected properly. The only material we were allowed to use for this project was cardboard, with no additional adhesives to help the cardboard hold together.
This process involved creating a great number of sketch models, as the models helped me work through my ideas in a physical manner, as well as helped me understand the nature of cardboard.
I decided to expand upon the leftmost model below. I changed the manner in which the package opened, making it more of a motion of opening a ring box, rather than opening a purse. This helped display the bread more. In addition, in my final iteration, I changed the manner in which I folded the cardboard, moving the slits to the inside, to help create a cleaner look on the outside of the package.
